Stay informed: Immigration stops, detention and deportation – Workers' Action Centre

The Workers' Action Centre and Parkdale Community Legal Services have created a new guide to support undocumented migrants and people who may be at risk of losing their immigration status. It explains legal rights, immigration enforcement, detention, deportation, and safety planning.

Now You Know – Angels of Hope Against Human Trafficking

Angels of Hope Against Human Trafficking and Timea's Cause have released a survivor-led video series and legal booklet to help people understand the legal system after experiencing human trafficking. The resources are trauma-informed and designed for both survivors and the people who support them.

Free learning materials for the homeless-serving sector – Homelessness Learning Hub

The Homelessness Learning Hub is offering free, self-paced training and practical resources for people working to prevent homelessness in Canada. Resources and training are free, but participants need to create an account to access the online training and track progress.

Name change tool – Justice for Children and Youth

Justice for Children and Youth is testing a beta version of a new tool to help with a legal name change for people 16 or older. It’s an interactive form that creates a PDF of name change paperwork and a cover letter. Community organizations can send feedback to emily.chan@jfcy.clc.ca or complete the survey link at the top of the tool.

Free legal information sessions on human rights complaints

The Workers’ Education and Resource Collective (WERC) is offering free 30-minute legal information sessions for people who have filed, or are considering filing, a complaint under the Canadian Human Rights Act. The sessions are available to people who do not have legal representation.

WERC is also offering free webinars and workshops on the Canadian Human Rights Act for community organizations, staff, and clients. Organizations can request either online or in-person sessions by sending an email to: amanda@werc-cedt.ca.

Virtual workshop on gender-based violence and rental housing – OCASI and CCHR

The Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI) and the Canadian Centre for Housing Rights (CCHR) are offering a workshop on the intersections of gender-based violence (GBV) and housing insecurity. The session will discuss Canada's housing crisis, research findings on GBV and housing insecurity, as well as rental housing law basics. You can register now.

Help CLEO improve access to justice for family law clients

CLEO is recruiting participants for a research study evaluating how self-represented litigants complete the Family Law Rules Form 8: Application (General). Form 8 is used to start family court proceedings to deal with children, support, or property.

Participants who complete the study receive up to 2 hours of free legal services with a family law lawyer to review and correct their Form 8.

Legal clinics, community organizations, and other service providers are asked to share the pre-screening questionnaire with clients who are starting a Form 8.
