Small Claims Court is one of Ontario’s busiest courts. It deals with claims for $35,000 or less.
Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO) is pleased to announce a new Guided Pathway to help people make a claim in Small Claims Court. The pathway provides helpful information for filling out the forms, including how to:
-
name the right defendants,
-
describe what happened, and
-
explain damages.
People can choose a longer or shorter route through the pathway. The longer route gives more information about Small Claims Court, the types of claims that can be made, and how easy or hard it might be to collect damages if successful. The shorter option goes directly to filling out a Plaintiff’s Claim (Form 7A).
Made possible with funding from the Ministry of the Attorney General, the pathways are accessible from CLEO's Steps to Justice.
CLEO's Guided Pathways are free online tools that ask users questions and collect their answers to fill out legal forms. Users can save and print forms with instructions about how to give the forms to the court. Any personal information users enter into the pathways is confidential. There are Guided Pathways to help with some family, housing, immigration, income assistance, and wills and powers of attorney matters.
