CLEO's tools to help your communities
This month we want to share some of the 68 tools we've produced to help your clients and communities. Understanding laws and the court process is difficult. And today, more people are trying to resolve their legal problems on their own, because hiring a lawyer or paralegal is expensive.
We hope that our tools, available in English and French, can help you support the legal needs of your community members.
CLEO Connect also offers training webinars to help you become more confident in finding reliable legal information to respond to your clients' questions. Subscribe to CLEO Connect to learn more.
And, you can use CLEO's Guided Pathways to help your clients complete some court forms and documents. The pathways are online interviews that ask questions and create legal documents based on the answers. The pathways are free to use.
Shared housing tool
High rents have forced many people to live with others in a variety of housing arrangements. It's challenging for people to figure out their rights and responsibilities.
Our recently updated shared housing tool is useful for people who live with roommates. It can help them figure out what laws might apply to them, such as:
Once a person knows the laws that might apply to their situation, they can figure out their options and next steps.
Tool for setting a date in criminal court
Our Setting a date in criminal court tool can help your clients who have been charged with a crime and do not have a lawyer.
After a person is charged with a crime, they must go to court regularly to update the judge about their case. This continues until their charges are resolved or a trial date is set.
Based on where they are in the court process, this tool can help your client decide:
  • how much time to ask for before their next court date, and
  • what to say in court.
Tip sheets for wills and powers of attorney
We have 3 easy-to-use tip sheets that your clients can use to gather the information they need to make:
