At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, over 25% of people living in Canada received the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB). Many had lost their income and were relying on this to help cover the cost of basic necessities. However, in the last year, the federal government has been demanding that thousands of recipients pay back their CERB or Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB). Many of these recipients are low-income people struggling to make ends meet.
