Legal Aid Ontario and Community Legal Clinics in Ottawa: 
Connecting Ottawa has a 2-page info sheet that clarifies the difference between Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) and community legal clinics. It includes the specific areas of law that LAO and community legal clinics cover and the financial eligibility criteria for each. 

Overview of Canadian Refugee Law: 
This 4-page resource from Connecting Ottawa assists community workers to better understand the elements that refugee claimants must prove to succeed on their claim. It explains each element of the Convention Refugee definition, the key elements that an individual must prove to succeed on a refugee claim, and basic information about the Canadian refugee claim process. 

CLEO’s Steps to Justice also has the following legal information:  

  • A flowchart that shows how to make a refugee claim from inside Canada
  • A flowchart that shows how to make a refugee claim from outside Canada
  • Tip sheets to help complete Basis of Claim forms

Self-Advocacy: Getting What You Need:  
This 2-page tip sheet from Lake Country Community Legal Clinic helps tenants resolve housing issues that their landlord won’t address. It includes advice and links to services that might help. It focuses on the Muskoka region in Ontario, but tenants could find similar services in their region. 

Lake Country Community Legal Clinic also has the following forms and checklists:

  • Move-In Inspection Form: A 1-page form for tenants and landlords to complete when tenants move in.
  • Move-Out Inspection Form: A 1-page form for tenants and landlords to complete when tenants move out.
  • Moving Checklist: A 1-page checklist that lists the legal and practical tasks tenants should complete when they are preparing to move.
