Resources from community organizations
Rent control
Fair Rent Ontario is a group of different organizations trying to change Ontario’s rent control rules. Their website has resources from several organizations on rent control and how it can help tenants. They also have information for people and organizations that want to get involved.
Defamation law
The Learning Network has a primer for survivors of gender-based violence and service providers on how defamation law is used to hurt survivors in Canada. It also recommends things people can do to challenge the use of defamation lawsuits to harm survivors of gender-based violence.
Economic abuse
The Canadian Center for Women’s Empowerment has resources to help service providers identify and address the economic abuse that survivors of gender-based violence may experience. Resources include:
The fact sheet for survivors is available in English, French, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu.
Events from community organizations
February 4 and 5: The Learning Network is hosting a two-day virtual forum on Understanding Alternative Justice Practices in the Gender-Based Violence Sector.
Get involved
The National Housing Council’s Neha review panel is writing a report on the right to safe, suitable, and affordable housing for women, Two Spirit, transgender, and gender-diverse people. The panel would like members of these communities and the organizations that support them to share their experiences, expertise, and proposed solutions.
The National Indigenous Women’s Housing Network and the Women’s National Housing and Homelessness Network created a toolkit and resources to help people prepare what they want to share.
People have until March 14, 2025, to provide their input. They can do this online, by email, or mail.
