Learn about the law with CLEO!

Join CLEO for a special FREE five-part online training series for community workers. Each session in the series will provide an introduction to a different area of law and will highlight what legal information, tools, and resources CLEO offers in that area.

You can register for as many sessions as you’d like to attend. You do not need to register for every session.

The five-part series will focus on the following topics:

• Thursday, September 11 – Intro to immigration law from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Types of immigration status and what they mean
  • Immigration paths to Canada

• Thursday, September 18 – Intro to employment law from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Basic employment standards
  • Employment Insurance (EI)

• Thursday, September 25 – Intro to family law (part 1) from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 
  • Marriage and common law relationships 
  • Separation and divorce 
  • Dividing property and spousal support 

• Thursday, October 2 – Intro to family law (part 2) from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Child support
  • Decision-making responsibility and parenting time
  • Moving or travelling with a child

• Thursday, October 9 – Intro to criminal law from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Rights when stopped by the police
  • What happens after an arrest
  • Making a complaint about the police

Registration for each session is limited to the first 60 registrants. If registration is full, you will be added to the waitlist in case any spots become available. If you can no longer attend a session, please let us know so that we can give your spot to someone on the waitlist. The sessions will run live and will not be recorded. Some of the sessions may finish earlier than at the time indicated above.
