The Eviction Process: Rights of Tenants with Disabilities
Many landlords discriminate against tenants with disabilities by giving them an eviction notice before doing what is required under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC). Landlords must take steps to find out more about a tenant’s disability and what special arrangements or ‘accommodations’ may be required to allow tenants with disabilities to remain in their housing.
This webinar will provide community workers with information about how to request accommodation, a landlord’s duty to accommodate tenants where possible - ‘to the point of undue hardship’, and the range of changes a landlord may have to make to allow tenants with disabilities equal access to housing. Presenters will share examples of successful strategies to prevent eviction.
Date and time: Thursday October 13th, 12-1pm
Speakers: Tracey Lawrence and Kim Facca, Community Legal Workers at Kinna-aweya Legal Clinic (Thunder Bay)
